Az étrend-kiegészítők nagy többsége főleg növényi kivonatokat, olajokat tartalmaz, előfordulhat állati eredetű is, ilyen pl. halolaj. Az olajok, zsírok köztudottan tárolás közben oxidálódnak (avasodnak). Oxidáció hatására a hatóanyagok veszítenek hatásosságukból.
Capsugel technológiával a hatóanyag kapszulába töltése után, a fennmaradó térben megmaradó levegőt nitrogén gázra cserélik le. Így hosszú távon kivédik az olajokat oxidációs hatásoktól. Ez érvényes a lágy zselatin kapszulákra is.
Licaps technológia a kemény zselatin kapszulákra specializálódott. Itt a nitrogén csere után a két kapszula fél zárására is szükség van. Hagyományos melegítéses technológia helyett (amikor hő hatására szintén sérül a kapszula tartalma) egy vékony film réteggel történik a ragasztás. Ami szintén megőrzi a kapszula tartalmát. Záráskor pedig hermetikusan lezárja a kapszulateret úgy, hogy a kívülről befelé történő levegő bejutását megakadályozza.
Ezeken a technológiai megoldásokon kívül jellemző még a kapszulákra, hogy áttetszőek, esztétikusak, könnyen bevehetőek, felszívódásuk kiváló, felhasználóbarátak.
